Art Test - Mass Virtual

The topology of the object wasn’t very straight-forward, which was likely intentional. It was fun to problem-solve the topology by giving it a nice long inspection and outputting a quick higher poly sculpt that made it easier to retopologize the proper shape on it, since hard surface modeling that topology from scratch was likely not going to be as easy.

This is the most “used” object I have ever textured. While I am comfortable with Substance, details like dirt, rust and grunge are not something I was well versed in since I usually model cleaner and more stylized models with simpler textures. However, it was a great challenge! I was content with the first pass of textures after day 1, but I definitely felt like I needed to have another look at it with fresh eyes on day 2. I was able to clean up some of the material properties that didn’t quite match the reference and then I moved on to the fine details, inspecting every corner of the model to see what specs and scratches I could try my very best to match.
